An upcoming educational event scheduled for November 3, 2022 in Nags Head will bring together the local church community in a broader discussion about what faith leaders can do to address mental health and the overdose crisis on a scale nearing at their home. Breakfast will be provided.

“Growing Communities of Inclusion: Mental Health and Harm Reduction” will examine substance use, harm reduction and mental health through the lens of faith. There will be concrete ideas and resources on how your faith community can get involved.

Topics will include: understanding the connection between mental health and substance use, harm reduction, defining addiction work as a ministry, why faith leaders should do this work, proper training on referral system, how to practice community inclusion, use stigma-reducing language, and ideas from ministry of addiction and mental health.

This event is available through a partnership between the Saving Lives Task Force Faith Subcommittee, the Dare County Department of Health and Human Services, Saint Andrews By the Sea Episcopal Church, and the North Carolina Council of Churches. Participation is free and open to religious leaders, regardless of religious affiliation, and to the community. Participants can register here. Together, let’s eliminate the stigma.
