Oyo emerges from the best state of digital technology development


Oyo State has become the best state in digital technology human capital development, the best state in digital technology infrastructure development, the finalist in e-government implementation and the best general state of development of digital technology at the 9th ordinary meeting of the National Council for Communications and Digital Economy (NCCDE).

The 9th Regular Meeting of the National Communications and Digital Economy Council (NCCDE) chaired by the Hon. The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, took place from December 10 to 13 at the NAUWA Events Center, Mambilla Barracks, Asokoro, FCT, Abuja.

The theme of the event was “Using digital technology to accelerate economic recovery in the post-COVID-19 era and beyond”.

A statement from the NCCDE said the four-day program brought together heads of various parastatals under the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, such as the director general of the National Agency for the Development of Technologies. information (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa CCIE; the Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone, Professor Muhammed Bello Abubakar; Managing Director NigComSat, Ms. Abimbola Alale; representative of the Executive Vice-President of the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC), Post General Manager of NIPOST, Dr Ismail Adewusi; Hon. Minister of the CTF, Mallam Mohammed Musa Bello; Science and Technology Commissioners and Heads of ICT Agencies of the 36 States of the Federation as well as other dignitaries.

The statement noted that during the state peer review session, all states presented their ICT roadmaps to the judges and all participants in three categories: human capacity development in technology development, development of digital technology infrastructure and implementation of e-governance.

Special Assistant to the Governor of Oyo State on ICT and Electronic Governance, Mr. Bayo Akande; while presenting on behalf of Oyo State, highlighted the achievements of the state in each category.

For the development of human capacities in digital technology; he revealed that the OYSG had partnered with Oracle Academy to train computer science teachers in all public schools in the basics of programming languages.

According to the statement, “the state is also partnering with Tech4Dev to organize digital skills training for individuals in rural clusters, people with disabilities and other disadvantaged groups, as well as NDPR and digital skills training that has been organized for all state officials. The Oyo State Government also developed a framework that would ensure that all public servants are trained annually on current technological trends and basic digital skills for effective work practices; among other initiatives. At the end of this session, Oyo State became the top state in the Human Capacity Development in Digital Technology category.

Akande further explained that some of the achievements of Oyo State in the field of ICT infrastructure development.

He mentioned the Harmonized Fiber Infrastructure policy that the State plans to implement in the coming months to make way for zero tariffs on the right-of-way.

He also spoke about the Oyo State Infrastructure Management and Control Agency (OYSIMCA) which he oversees as the Managing Director, which is a one-stop-shop for all ICT infrastructure issues and the first point of contact for all ICT service providers who wish to liaise. with the state government.

On the protection of ICT infrastructures; the special assistant said the OYSIMCA task force responds quickly to any complaints about fiber vandals and illegal infrastructure.

He added that the Oyo state government has provided high speed internet connectivity throughout the secretariat. Oyo State has become the best state in the development of digital technological infrastructure.

Regarding the implementation of e-government which led the state to become the second finalist, Akande mentioned the various e-government applications and portals such as the state employment portal. ‘Oyo; Open Contracting Data Standard (OCDS) platform; the standard official web portal that hosts so many online government services; the electronic procurement portal; SMS notification application used by Oyo State Emergency Operations Center; the education portal and so on.

“All relevant links, screenshots and images from each category were provided during the presentation. At the end of all sessions, Oyo State won the Global Award for Best State in Implementing Digital Technology / Winner in Implementing National Policy and Strategy Development Pillars digital economy (NDEPS), ”the statement read.

Speaking with Mr. Bayo Akande, he said: “I am grateful to His Excellency, Ing. Seyi Makinde who gave me the opportunity to realize his vision of ICT for the State. His Excellency always understood from the start that the development of digital technology is crucial to achieve his roadmap for accelerated development in Oyo State. We will deploy more innovations in the years to come.
