Unemployment continues to fall in Stanislas

The unemployment rate continued to fall in Stanislaus County, according to the latest figures from the Department of Employment Development.

Stanislaus County had an unemployment rate of 6.9% in September, down from the revised rate of 8% in August. The rate is lower than a year ago’s estimate of 10.3 percent.

Stanislaus County saw strong growth in public sector employment in September and recorded higher rates in professional and business services, according to data from the EDD. Stanislaus County added about 900 government jobs for the month and about 700 for professional and business services.

The Stanislaus County agricultural sector added about 300 jobs in September. The only other industry to post job increases for the month is financials, which added around 100 jobs, according to EDD.

Sectors in Stanislaus County that recorded job declines for the month were: Mining, logging,
and construction (100); Manufacturing (200); Trade, transport and public services (100); and Education and health services (500). All other sectors remained stable.

California’s unemployment rate was 6.4% for the month and the nation’s was 4.6 for the same period.

Turlock had an unemployment rate of 6% in September; Denair was at 6.6 percent; Hughson 3.7%; Keyes at 8.5%; and Ceres was at 7.8 percent.

EDD has released data regarding online job postings and companies looking to hire for the month of September. The top 10 positions with the most vacancies for the month in Stanislaus County were: Registered Nurses – 585, which is down 92 from the previous month; heavy truck and semi-trailer drivers – 430, an increase of 127 from the previous month; retail sellers – 365, down 10 from August; front line supervisors of retail salespeople – 274, down 10 from August; wholesale and manufacturing representatives except scientific and technical products – 258, which were down five from August; customer service representatives – 253, down seven from the previous month; freight, inventory and equipment workers and movers – 239, up four for the month; managers – 185, down 17 over the month; maintenance and repair workers – 176, a decrease of 33 from August; and combined food preparation and serving attendants, including fast food restaurants – 161, up four.

The top 10 companies with the most jobs online in Stanislaus County in September were: Anthem Blue Cross – 407, down 11; Tenet Health System – 226, down from 24; Sutter Health – 222, up eight; Modesto City Schools – 146, down 45; California State University, Stanislas – 135, up 11; E&J Gallo Winery – 133, up 20; Ceres Unified School District – 88, up three; Kaiser Permanente – 86, up 11; Providence Hospitals – 80, down seven; and Yosemite Community College District – 78, up 20.
